Rude Boy ? Guest Post by @lawrencejgreen ? Guardian Watch

I have found the recent debates surrounding the Rihanna/Chris Brown situation troubling. I think they speak of a tendency to think of people as merely the acts they commit, and to see these acts as universal cultural signifiers which are the same for all people and to which there should be only one response. In terms of domestic violence, the expected response consists of anger, revilement and castigation towards the abuser, usually of a permanent nature. I in no way seek to ?apologise? for what anyone has done, I just wish to analyse the context where anything other than the response I have outlined is deemed as apologetics, and suggest why I think this might ultimately inhibit any open discussion on the subject of violence within relationships.

For this purpose, I will mainly talk about Chris Brown, The Abuser. What do we know about him and this situation? Well, not much really. We don?t know how many times he spoken to Rihanna. We don?t know how she feels. We don?t know what, if any, resolution has been reach between the two. We don?t really know anything about their relationship at all. We don?t know what he thinks, or does, and we don?t know how he feels when he sits alone at night. And yes, you might argue I am projecting my own feelings and experiences on to a horrible situation of which I have no great insight and thus have no right to do so. Well yeah, isn?t that what everyone is doing? As I have said, we ?know? very little about Chris Brown, and what we do know is highly mediated. Even in the rare moments that we do catch a glimpse of a less mediated version of this reviled character ? such as the recent tweets after the Grammys ? we don?t really get anything more than a snapshot of euphoria.

Ultimately, I think the way we see and talk about domestic violence inhibits the kind of reaction people would like to see from characters such as Chris Brown. Not raising your fists to a woman is almost a fundamental tenant of male honour; just below fucking kids and significantly higher than walking out on your family. To violate this tenant is bad enough, but to admit that it was your fault and to apologise also means wilfully surrendering a part of what it means to be a man. You are forever a monster; nothing you can ever do will erase what you?ve done, even a full and frank apology. In this situation what else can you do but not accept or try to shift the burden of responsibility for the horrendous act you have committed. To do so would be an assault on the self which many are unable to bear. Under this climate and in the ego centric world Chris Brown and many others live in, such an assault is unthinkable and unacceptable.

Of course, not everyone views domestic violence in these terms ? the women (and many others) who posted the supporting tweets are a testament to that. But I do feel we have to recognise that these are both cultural narratives which have to be taken into account. The connections people build with celebrities ? now more than ever ? are connections of the self and with the ego of that person. The same affect applies. It is easier to ignore or shift the blame of someone you have been encouraged to adore than it is to truly accept and evaluate the wider meaning of those acts in almost the only other narrative available to you.

So there are two options in my view, dismantle celebrity culture as we know it or try to have a more fluid appreciation of violence within relationships. Seeing domestic violence as beyond the pale is counterproductive, seeing people as monsters and arseholes is irrelevant. However unpleasant it is, I believe you have to attempt to understand the motives of the abuser. For that, I think people have to be able to feel that can be free and open about what they have done and why they have done it. I think we have to see them, and they have to see themselves, as redeemable and human. Most of all I think we have to recognise that domestic violence is the product of relationships between people, (and not just the one between the two people involved in the violence), with all the specificities and complexities that entails.

Survival after a diagnosis of AJCC Stage IV prostate cancer ? THE ...

For many men, a diagnosis of prostate cancer of any stage or grade ? even of the lowest level of risk ? is hard to deal with. If they have progressive disease after first-line therapy, it may appear to be an overwhelming issue.

This morning, on Ask Arthur, we received a pleasant surprise, which may offer great hope and a ?real life? perspective for the many men who do, indeed, find that first-line therapy has failed to eliminate their cancer, and that they have a rising PSA ?

We will let you read the actual tale for itself. However, for those of you who haven?t been dealing with prostate cancer since the mid to late 1990s, there was an earlier time ? and an earlier version of this web service. About the only thing in common between the two was ?Ask Arthur.? Then, as today, Arthur sought to help individual men with questions about their diagnosis and treatment. Today we also provide a much wider service too ? through the use of our social network, and the calls on Arthur?s time and expertise are far fewer than they were back in 1995 to early 1998, when the original InfoLink site was one of few places you could get to if you entered ?prostate cancer? into the relatively primitive search engines of that time.

The point to all this, however, is that progressive prostate cancer is far from being the end of life. The gentleman who left the message for Arthur last night was initially diagnosed in his mid to late 40s. By 1997 he had a rising PSA, had been told he had Stage IV disease, and that he had 2 to 3 years left to live. But not at all.

Prostate cancer is an unusual disease, and we still know little about the biological drivers of prostate cancer in specific individuals. What we do know, however, is that most men diagnosed with prostate cancer today are not going to die from this disease if it is appropriately managed; that many men diagnosed even with late-stage, progressive disease, may live for a decade or more after their diagnosis; and that we are at the beginnings of a revolution in the management of progressive and advanced forms of prostate cancer, as may be discovered through innovative trials like this one, that has just started to recruit men with relatively early stage metastatic, castration-resistant prostate cancer to bone only.

It is also worth noting part of Arthur?s response to his correspondent:

Arthur believes that the cultural and social biases that kick in (among patients themselves, among family members, and among the professional community) when any diagnosis of cancer is given often still reflect the mindsets of the 1950s as opposed to the 21st Century.

?Cancer? is a loaded word. We do indeed often respond to it in ways that demonstrate our misconceptions about the implications of such a diagnosis. Arthur wasn?t a young man even back in the mid-1990s, but his brain still seems to be working pretty well today!

Of course this is hardly a unique tale. There are many other men today who have been living well with advanced forms of prostate cancer for a decade and more. We need to keep building on that realization ? whether we are patients, healthcare professionals, family members of patients, or just educated consumers. Reacting with fear to an initial diagnosis of prostate cancer is still very ?normal? today. Hopefully, by about 2020, maybe we will have managed to demonstrate that such a reaction is no longer sensible because the management options are so much better than they were back in 1995-7 when Arthur first started to offer men his on-line assistance.

Apple CEO: Company Has More Money Than We Actually Need

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, recently stated that Apple has much more amount of money than the company requires.

The next issue on the CEO's agenda is the deliberation of whether they should continue with the strategy upheld by the late Steve Jobs or to just use the $98 billion sitting in Apple's bank account as a method of paying the shareholders their respective dividend for 2012.

At the annual shareholders' meeting held last Thursday, Cook hinted that the company board had almost reached a conclusion concerning the aforementioned issue.

Cook informed the board as well as the management that they were contemplating the matter: "This isn't a case where 100 per cent of people are going to agree with what we do," reported USA Today.

Even though past records show that Apple stopped paying their shareholders back in 1995, Cook now feels that Apple has more money than they truly need.

During the meeting the company received some valuable advice, with one proposal suggesting not to pay shareholders for their dividends every quarter and instead give them a one off annual payment. The company is yet to make a final decision and it seems they are near enough ready to share their profit with the shareholders on a more practical basis.

(AP) ? American drone strikes inside Pakistan are killing far fewer civilians than many in the country are led to believe, according to a rare on-the-ground investigation by The Associated Press of 10 of the deadliest attacks in the past 18 months.

The widespread perception in Pakistan that civilians, not militants, are the principal victims ? a view that is fostered by leading right-wing politicians, clerics and the fighters themselves ? fuels pervasive anti-American sentiment and, some argue, has swelled the ranks of al-Qaida and the Taliban.

But an AP reporter who spoke to about 80 villagers at the sites of the 10 attacks in North Waziristan, the main sanctuary for militants in Pakistan's northwest tribal region along the Afghan border, was told that a significant majority of the dead were combatants.

Indeed, the AP was told by the villagers that of at least 194 people killed in the attacks, about 70 percent ? at least 138 ? were militants. The remaining 56 were either civilians or tribal police, and 38 of them were killed in a single attack on March 17, 2011.

Excluding that strike, which inflicted one of the worst civilian death tolls since the drone program started in Pakistan, nearly 90 percent of the people killed were militants, villagers said.

But the civilian deaths in the covert CIA-run program raise legal and ethical concerns, especially given Washington's reluctance to speak openly about the strikes or compensate the families of innocent victims.

U.S. officials who were shown the AP's findings rejected the accounts of any civilian casualties but declined to be quoted by name or make their own information public.

The U.S. has carried out at least 280 attacks since 2004 in Pakistan's tribal region. The area is dangerous and off-limits to most reporters, and death tolls from the strikes usually rely on reports from Pakistani intelligence agents speaking on condition of anonymity.

The numbers gathered by the AP turned out to be very close to those given by Pakistani intelligence on the day of each strike, the main difference being that the officials often did not distinguish between militants and civilians.

Drone attacks began during the Bush administration. President Barack Obama has ramped them up significantly since he took office but slowed them down in recent months because of increased tension between the U.S. and Pakistan caused by American airstrikes that accidentally killed 24 Pakistani soldiers in November.

Pakistan responded by kicking the U.S. out of a base used to service American drones, but the move is not expected to affect the program significantly.

The AP study paints a much different picture from that advanced by important Pakistani opinion-shapers.

Syed Munawar Hasan, head of the country's most powerful Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami, recently claimed on TV that the strikes "are killing nearly 100 percent innocent people."

Imran Khan, a popular opposition politician close to some right-wing Islamic groups, addressed a cheering crowd last April and said: "Those who lie to the nation after every drone attack and say terrorists were killed should be ashamed."

He called for journalists and activists to go to the tribal region to see that the strikes were killing civilians, not militants.

Some analysts have been skeptical about carrying out on-the-ground investigations, assuming villagers would follow the militants' narrative of high civilian death tolls to avoid reprisals. But the AP study showed otherwise. While some villagers spoke on condition of anonymity saying they feared for their safety, others let their names be published.

Many knew the dead civilians personally. They also said one way to distinguish civilians from militants was by counting funerals, because the bodies of dead militants would usually be whisked away for burial elsewhere.

An attack near Miran Shah before dawn on Aug. 10, 2011, was one of six on the AP's list in which villagers said no civilians died.

A drone fired missiles at a large brick compound, killing at least 20 Afghan and Pakistani Taliban fighters, said Sajjad Ali, a local driver. The compound hit was known as a rest house for militants run by the Haqqani network, an Afghan group focused on fighting foreign troops in Afghanistan, he said.

The charred bodies were hastily buried in a graveyard more than a mile (2 kilometers) away, said Ali, who spoke to several people who attended the burial. Those who attended were not allowed to see the victims' faces, he said.

A second man who spoke to people who attended the burial confirmed Ali's account. He requested anonymity.

Before dawn on April 22, 2011, a drone fired missiles at the guest room of a large compound in Hasan Khel, a village in the mountains dominated by Hafiz Gul Bahadur, a Pakistani militant commander fighting foreign troops in Afghanistan.

The strike killed 25 people, including 20 militants, three children and two women, said Mamrez Gul, who owns a shop near the site of the attack. The militants were staying in the guest room, and the civilians were sleeping in a nearby room that was also destroyed by the blasts. A funeral was held for the women and children, but the bodies of the militants were taken away, said Mamrez Gul.

He said the women and children were relatives of the compound's owner, Gul Sharif, a militant commander loyal to Bahadur. He survived the attack, said two villagers, speaking on condition of anonymity.

A U.S. counterterrorism official in Washington said no women and children were observed in the compound before the strike. But Mamrez Gul, taxi driver Noor Habib Wazir and farmer Gul Paenda Khan said they attended the funeral of the women and children.

A strike on August 14, 2010, on a compound in Issori Boikhel village also illustrated the danger to civilians who live close to militants. The attack killed seven Pakistani Taliban fighters and seven tribesmen, said Shera Deen, the owner of the compound that was hit. Safir Ullah, a student, corroborated the casualty count, as did a third villager who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Deen, who was not in the compound when it was attacked, said he lost two sons, a brother and three nephews, one of them 10 years old.

The seventh tribesman killed was 26-year-old Sohrab Khan, who was leading evening prayers for the Islamic holy month of Ramadan when the missiles struck, the villagers said. According to them, the Taliban fighters entered the compound to join the prayers, which would explain why they were bunched together with civilians.

The tribesmen were buried in a graveyard with a wooden headstone indicating they were victims of a drone attack, the villagers said. The Taliban fighters were buried in a different corner of the same graveyard in an unmarked grave, they said.

U.S. counterterrorism officials disputed the death tolls and other details of some of the strikes, including the exact locations. One said the U.S. "had no reliable evidence" that civilians were killed in any of the strikes examined and questioned the reliability of villagers' accounts.

The officials all spoke on condition of anonymity because the drone program is classified.

Regarding the March 17, 2011, strike on Shiga village, the bloodiest attack investigated by the AP, U.S. officials familiar with drone operations said the group targeted was heavily armed, some of its members were connected to al-Qaida, and all "acted in a manner consistent with AQ (al-Qaida)-linked militants."

But villagers and Pakistani officials said the missiles hit a community meeting, or jirga, held to resolve a mining dispute, killing four Pakistani Taliban fighters and 38 civilians and tribal police.

The militants were there because they controlled the area and any decision made would need their approval, said Gul Ahmed, a farmer.

Citing the number visible in the monitoring before and during the attack, U.S. officials said the total of dead was roughly half what villagers reported. But Ahmed said there were 42 caskets lined up at the funeral, and he provided the victims' names.

Christopher Rogers, a lawyer who has studied civilian casualties in Pakistan from drone attacks and other military action, said that regardless of casualty tolls, the U.S. still needed to make the program more transparent to prove it is complying with international laws on who may be targeted and measures to minimize the loss of innocent lives.

"The percentage of militants killed is an important piece of this, but it is one piece of a larger picture," said Rogers, who works at Open Society Foundations, an advocacy group in New York City. "The bigger issue here is the covert nature of the program, the complete lack of any transparency and accountability and the lack of information about how the U.S. distinguishes a militant from a civilian."

The drone program is so secretive that only last month did Obama publicly acknowledge its existence. He said the strikes "have not caused a huge number of civilian casualties," but gave no details.

Rights organizations have been unable to verify the number of civilian casualties caused by drones because of the danger and difficulty of getting to sites.

One London-based group, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, has published drone casualty figures based on media reports, witness testimony and other information. It said strikes have killed between 2,383 and 3,109 people, of whom 464 to 815 were civilians. That implies the percentage of militants killed was roughly 70 to 80 percent. The group said an unidentified U.S. counterterrorism official insisted its civilian casualty figures were much too high.

A poll conducted in May 2011 by the U.S.-based Pew Research Center found that overwhelming majorities of Pakistanis who were aware of drone strikes said they were a bad thing and killed too many innocents. Pakistani officials regularly criticize the strikes as violations of the country's sovereignty, but there has long been some level of Pakistani acquiescence or help in the program.

Pakistani intelligence officials said a suspected U.S. drone crashed Saturday near Mir Ali, one of the main towns in North Waziristan, and caught fire after hitting the ground. The officials said the drone was believed to have crashed because of technical problems.

A U.S. official denied reports that the drone was shot down. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the classified program.

Bartering to Fund your Business | Small Business Consulting San ...

Often overlooked, there are many alternative sources of funding and financing available that apply creativity and innovation towards supporting business.

One of the earliest business exchanges of humankind, bartering is a great business strategy to use when starting up your new business. Known as the simple exchange of goods or services between individuals, it can be a great way for you to keep cash flow to a minimum while receiving benefits from neighboring businesses. By giving some of your product to another business, you in return will receive their product as well.

Take for example a car shop that is looking to create a website for their business. Instead of shelling out big bucks to a web designer, the shop could barter mechanical work on the designer?s car for his help creating the website.

Another huge benefit of bartering is creating partnerships and networks with other local businesses. Not only are you minimizing early costs, but newly established relationships can help refer, promote, and market your business. Continuing on, members of this type of bartering community can use their personal networks towards profits and make commissions off sales. Take our mechanic from above: If his web designer has any friends looking to get their car worked on, he can offer a 15% cut to the designer for every successful referral. Not only has his network increased exponentially, he has created a win-win symbiotic relationship through bartering

Lastly, bartering is an easy way to get big value from outdated inventory and stock without having to lessen their cash value.

There are now multiple barter exchange groups that can be found online and in communities where companies come together to work in 2 basic methods:

  1. Firms find other firms to barter directly with
  2. Firms sell their goods and services for ?trade credits? or ??bartering dollars? to use at a later time with members of the barter exchange

IRS and Taxes

It is important to note that when dealing with a barter exchange, you will need to fill out and submit Form 1099-B to the IRS. The IRS deems trades dollars identical to real currency and required them for tax reporting. Also, when dealing with direct bartering, your tax return should state the fair market value of the product or service.

  • As per the IRS: The rules for reporting barter transactions may vary depending on which form of bartering takes place. Generally, you report this type of business income on Form 1040, Schedule C Profit or Loss from Business, or other business returns such as Form 1065 for Partnerships, Form 1120 for Corporations, or Form 1120-S for Small Business Corporations.

Survey Finds Many Self-Identify As Addicted To The Internet ? @Work

An online, non-scientific survey from SodaHead found that 61 percent of 602 respondents feel they are addicted to the internet. That may not be so surprising, given the survey was conducted online. More women than men felt they were addicted with 64 percent versus 55 percent. Teenagers reported themselves the biggest addicts with 73 percent. Older respondents, those aged between 45 and 54, reported 40 hours of browsing per week, but said they were not addicted, while teens reported 22.3 hours online. How could American?s internet addiction impact productivity in the workplace? ?What can employers do keep workers focused on their responsibilities? ?

(AP) ? The battle of the bulge has been a big, fat failure for U.S. drugmakers. But that hasn't stopped them from trying.

For nearly a century, scientists have struggled to make a diet pill that helps people lose weight without side effects that range from embarrassing digestive issues to dangerous heart problems.

Earlier this week, a government panel recommended the FDA approve the latest diet drug Qnexa. The recommendation raises hopes that the U.S. could approve the first anti-obesity drug in more than a decade. It also highlights how challenging it is to create a pill that fights fat in a variety of people without negative side effects. Even Qnexa was previously rejected over concerns that it can cause heart palpitations and birth defects if taken by pregnant women.

"Having a drug for obesity would be like telling me you had a drug for the fever," said Dr. Mitchell Roslin, chief of bariatric surgery at Northern Westchester Hospital in New York. "There can be millions of different reasons why someone is obese; it's really a symptom of various underlying mechanisms."

An effective and safe diet pill would be an easy sale in the U.S.: With more than 75 million obese adults, the nation's obesity rate is nearing 35 percent. But the biggest problem in creating a weight-loss drug is that there appears to be no safe way to turn off one of the human body's most fundamental functions.

For millions of years, humans have been programmed to consume calories and store them as energy, or fat. It's this biological mechanism that makes it almost impossible to quickly lose weight by not eating. Cutting down on food instead sends stronger signals to the body to store more calories.

"Throughout most of human history calories were scarce and hard to get, so we have numerous natural defenses against starvation," said Dr. David Katz of Yale University's Prevention Research Center. "We have no defenses against overeating because we never needed them before."

So, the drug industry has been on a nearly 100-year search for a drug that can help the body shed pounds. It has mostly failed to come up with an effective one and many of the experiments have proven fatal to patients:

? Early attempts focused on speeding up metabolism, or the body's method for breaking down food into energy. The speed of metabolism controls how quickly or slowly we burn calories and ultimately how much weight we take on

In the 1930s, doctors prescribed an industrial chemical called dinitrophenol, which accelerated metabolism, but also caused fever, swelling and deadly toxicity in some patients. The 1938 law establishing the Food and Drug Administration was a response to untested drugs like dinitrophenol.

? In the '50s and '60s, amphetamines became popular drugs because they boost metabolism and suppress appetite. But the pills proved to be highly addictive, and doctors discovered they increase blood pressure and heart rate. The amphetamine phentermine is approved for short-term weight loss, usually less than 12 weeks, though it is seldom prescribed because of the potential for addiction.

? Perhaps the worst diet pill safety debacle came in the 1990s and involved the combination of phentermine and another weight loss drug marketed by Wyeth called fenfluramine. The combination of the two pills, dubbed fen-phen, was never approved by the FDA. But because the agency doesn't regulate doctors' decisions about prescribing various combinations of drugs, more than 18 million fen-phen prescriptions were written by 1996.

One year later, studies suggested that up to a third of patients taking fen-phen experienced heart valve damage. In 1997, Wyeth was forced to recall two versions of fenfluramine and eventually paid more than $13 billion to settle tens of thousands of personal injury lawsuits.

? In the last decade, drugmakers have moved toward other weight loss concoctions. Currently, the only drug approved for long-term weight loss in the U.S. is orlistat, which is sold as the prescription drug Xenical and over the counter as alli. The drug works by blocking the absorption of fat.

When launched in 2007, alli received a high-profile marketing push from drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline, complete with TV ads and a celebrity endorsement by country singer Wynonna Judd. But it never took off due to unpleasant side effects, including loose bowel movements. Educational pamphlets for alli even recommend people start the program when they have a few days off work, or bring an extra pair of pants to the office.

? Most drugmakers now are focusing on medications that block brain signals associated with food craving and appetite. Vivus' Qnexa is one of a trio of drugs seeking FDA approval. The diet pill, which was initially rejected due to the risks of heart palpitations and other safety issues, is a combination of two older drugs.

It uses phentermine, the appetite suppressant. The other drug is topiramate, an anticonvulsant sold by Johnson & Johnson as Topamax. Topiramate is believed to make patients feel more satiated, though it's unclear exactly how. J&J initially studied Topamax alone as a weight loss treatment but concluded the psychiatric side effects, such as memory loss and difficulty concentrating, were too significant.

Still, on Wednesday, a panel of FDA doctors and other advisers voted 20-2 in favor of approving Vivus' Qnexa pill, which the drugmaker has resubmitted to the FDA for a second review.

The group touted the drug's benefits, which include weight loss of nearly 10 percent for most patients taking the drug over a year ? the highest reduction reported with any recent diet pill. But panelists stressed that the drugmaker must be required to conduct a large, follow-up study of the pill's effects on the heart.

The FDA is expected to issue its decision on Qnexa by mid-April.

"The potential benefits of this medication seem to trump the side effects," said FDA panel member Dr. Kenneth Burman of the Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC. "But in truth, only time will tell."

Tammy Wade of McCalla, Ala., is confident that the diet pill works. She lost nearly 40 pounds, dropping down to 167 while in a two-year Qnexa study.

"I never lost that much weight on any of the programs I've tried," said Wade, who's done everything from Weight Watchers to work out with a personal trainer.

(AP) ? A Dutch prince hit by an avalanche while skiing off-trail in Austria last week suffered massive brain damage and may never regain consciousness, his doctors said Friday.

Johan Friso, the second of Dutch Queen Beatrix's three sons, was buried for 25 minutes before rescuers found him. It then took nearly 50 precious minutes to resuscitate the prince after he was pulled from the snow, time that may have cause permanent damage, said Dr. Wolfgang Koller, head of trauma at the Innsbruck hospital where he is being treated.

"It is clear that the oxygen starvation has caused massive brain damage to the patient," Koller said. "At the moment, it cannot be predicted if he will ever regain consciousness."

The 41-yaer-old Friso, who is married and has two young daughters, will be moved later to a rehabilitation clinic for further treatment. But Koller cautioned that it may take years before he awakens from his coma ? if he ever does ? and any recovery from such significant brain damage is a process of "months or even years."

Friso was skiing off-trail in Lech, Austria, despite avalanche warnings, with a childhood friend from the alpine village the Dutch royal family has been visiting each winter for years.

The friend was carrying an avalanche "air bag" and escaped without serious injury. Friso was found with the help of a signaling device he was carrying and flown by helicopter to the Innsbruck Clinic.

But "50 minutes of resuscitation is extremely long. You could say too long," Koller said.

The doctor said that due to protocols for minimizing brain damage after such an accident, it had only been possible to conduct an MRI scan of Friso's brain on Thursday.

"We had hoped that the slight cooling of the patient would protect his brain from too serious damage. Unfortunately this hope was not fulfilled," he said.

Friso is in a coma, a state of unconsciousness in which a person cannot be awakened with external physical or auditory stimulation. There are different levels of unconsciousness and unresponsiveness depending on how much brain function there is. Doctors did not give further details of Friso's diagnosis.

Members of the family, including Beatrix, Friso's older brother Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, and others have traveled to and from the hospital in a somber vigil. His wife, Princess Mabel, has worn black.

They appealed Friday for the media to respect their privacy. In a statement, the family said it "needs space to learn how to deal with Prince Friso's health situation and to adjust their lives to it."

Prime Minister Mark Rutte's office said he called the queen Friday morning to tell them the "country sympathizes deeply with the royal family in this time of concern and grief."

The queen has said that the family has been moved by the "countless" messages of condolence and encouragement they have received.

Friso, who worked for years as an investment banker for Goldman Sachs, had previously been a relatively low-profile member of the highly popular Dutch royal family.

The most public period of his life before the accident came during his engagement to Mabel, a Dutch woman whose maiden name was Wisse Smit.

She worked for George Soros' Open Society Institute and was seen by the queen as an ideal daughter-in-law. But during her vetting to join the royal house, the pair decided not to disclose the full extent of a university friendship she had with drug baron Klaas Bruinsma, who was later slain in a gangland killing.

Wisse Smit said she hadn't fully understood who Bruinsma was at the time. But as details of their former friendship emerged in the Dutch press, then-Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said he wouldn't propose the law needed for parliament to approve Wisse Smit's entry to the royal house.

According to the Dutch constitution, all royals require a law to be passed approving their marriages.

The couple acknowledged being "naive and incomplete" in what they told Balkenende.

Friso and Mabel decided to marry without seeking parliamentary approval, knowing the decision meant Friso would be cut from the royal house and line of succession. They are still members of the royal family, and bear honorific titles of Prince and Princess of Oranje-Nassau.

Since his marriage, Friso has served on various supervisory boards, worked for charitable organizations and helped found a low-cost airline. In 2011 he left a position as managing director at investment firm Wolfensohn & Company to became the chief financial officer of Urenco, the European uranium enrichment consortium.

The couple lives in London with their two daughters, Luana, 6, and 5-year-old Zaria.

Chicago Auto Insurance Quote Shoppers: Car Coverage Discount ...

This article has been viewed 34 times.

This short article studies the possible discounts that have been that are available to auto insurace consumers. Your post can also be about certain discounts that chicago car insurance consumers can not be solicited.Because insurance laws diverge from state to state, any issues suggestions specific to the automobile insurance inside the State of Illinois.

Illegal Rebate Vs Legal Discounts. Insurance producers are absolutely forbidden using rebates in their business practice. Discounts offered by insurance firms are OK.

If and once an insurance (agents) representatives, not the insurance policy, gives back every part of their commission into the clients to ?elicit? them to be able to pay for the agents then getting a rebating has occurred. For examples, when an insurance agent offers a $25.00 gift card for patrons who buys car coverage policy from him or her, the is rebating, and it is strictly illegal. If the agent supplies a $5 lunch card for you personally getting a car quote, or possibly a nice pen for home quote then this will never be rebate buying will not be needed. Any materialistic amount alocated to the buyers in exchange of which investing in a policy is definitely rebate. An insurance agent plus a client (if s/he knows) are breaking the law if they wish committing rebating.

It?s not classified as a rebate in the event the home office of a typical insurance company is giving back a premium or another component of it, or is giving the client an opportunity or perhaps an allowance on the insurance premium. The proper term to explain this lawful act is discounting. insured Actually discounting is usually a common practice in situations with intense competition.

In larger cities like NY or Chicago, competition between car insurance companies is severe. There are various insurers and thousands of agents and insurance agencies who will be competing against each others. Customers should never indicate or accept offers of ?discounts? beyond just what headquarters of a typical auto insurace company enables for.

Possible Discounts during the past of Car Insurance Companies in Chicago, Illinois (The Legal Look at their Discounts That you could Ask For:

1. Discounts for prior insurance. Clients may get about 10% if and when they provide evidence that they had prior insurance without interruption during the 6 months. According to the insurance policy, your prior policy need not to have lapsed more than thirty days ago. The longer you would have your insurance, the upper the discount rate. You have to present a proof, an official proof, from prior auto insurer. Statements manufactured by your agent or temporary documents are yikes enough. The proof should be in the form of valid insurance ID card issued from the prior company, not agency, itself, or even a declaration page of your respective contract.

2. Multi car policy discount. You obtain about 10% for having two or more vehicles insured below the same contract. Take into account which you cannot insure your round the corner neighbor, or partner, using your policy. The named insured in the policy has to have ?insurable interest? inside the auto we are most certainly insuring.

3. Homeowner discount. For those who own a home or perhaps a condo you could qualify for a price reduction. Insurers normally ask you for a signal (mortgage payment or home insurance policy) as a history of ownership of any residence. In the event of you having home under your cousin?s name, this may not qualify you for this discount.

4. Discounts for having multiple policies (package policy or multi account discount). Insuring a couple of policy together with the same insurance company can earn you discounts. Example, in case you order a life policy or condo insurance policy using the same company you might be entitled for money off against your auto insurace policy.
